July 16: Live Yin Yoga Class with Brooke Carnwath

Join Brooke Carnwath from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. the third Friday of every month for a restorative Yin Yoga practice. All classes will begin and end with meditation; students are encouraged to use props to support a comfortable, quiet body. All levels are welcome and encouraged.

Yin Yoga explores the connection between breath, body and tension—and the capacity for ease through sustained posture. All postures are seated and held for 3 to 5 minutes to access and release muscles, then connective tissue. With practice, the body learns to drop into stillness; openings at this deep level sustain strong, embodied movement and a capacity for attending to one’s internal state with compassionate, spacious awareness.

The Heart and Gut Series (Part 3)

The Heart and Gut Series (Part 3)

Join Georgia for 1, 2 or 3 creative flows and workshops that will look at the the negotiation of your heart and gut in your yoga practice. Sometimes we need to tap into our open loving heart; sometimes we need to tap into our wise intuition. The classes and workshops that make up the Heart and Gut Series are designed to build awareness around when to forge ahead and have faith versus when to ground down and listen. We will get on our mats, turn up the music, move through a creative (and FUN) sequence, sweat, and drop into a meditative empowering flow. THEN we will break down a specific set of postures that open and strengthen and work together to find authentic expressions of these postures that draw from the heart AND the gut.

Blue Light on the Eightfold Path with Georgia Reath

The richness of yoga is found when the practice follows you off your mat. For eight sessions over a four month period, join me every other week after my Monday 9:15 class to embark on an exploration of how to bring our yoga practice into our every day lives. Honing our understanding of our asana practice as a means to a greater end, the 9:15 class will lay the groundwork for a rich hour-long group discussion on how to find a greater sense of freedom and authenticity in our ego-driven culture.

Together we will read Dr. Mark Epstein’s latest book Advice Not Given: A Guide to Getting Over Yourself in which he uses the Eightfold Path as the road map for spiritual and psychological growth, a way to deal with the intractable ego. Each session will focus on a limb of the Eightfold Path: Right View, Right Motivation, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.

Bringing Blue Light to the Forefront

Join Georgia Reath for a signature Blue Light flow specifically designed to strengthen and open your front body. In this workshop, 75-minutes will be dedicated to flowing through a sequence that will intelligently bring space to your hips, thighs, side bodies, chest and shoulders. You will work from the deeper layers of your core center to anchor any opening to a place of strength and awareness. There will be a heavy focus on proper alignment and holding your poses together with isometric energy. Following the flow, we will workshop a variety of backbend poses including dhanurasana and urdhva dhanurasana. We will end the session with a sweet savasana and short meditation. You will sweat. You will flow. You will learn. You will be inspired.

Foreplay to Handstand
Apr

Foreplay to Handstand

The definition of foreplay is the action or behavior that precedes an event. In yoga, handstand is often in the limelight. But what about the actions and behaviors that precede and are necessary to attaining the inversion? In this two-hour workshop, we will explore the journey to rather then the destination of standing on your hands. The workshop will begin with a Blue Light flow specifically designed to prepare you (physically and mentally) to find or evolve your adho mukha vrksasana (handstand). The workshop will include intelligent sequencing, strength building exercises and space for discussion around personal injuries/challenges and/or resistance/fear.
