Every Saturday this winter, either Georgia or one of her favorite teachers will be teaching a Saturday morning class.
February 13, 10am-Noon: Christine Hoar - Ashtanga Yoga
Christine has been a practitioner and teacher of the Ashtanga Yoga System for over 25 years. From 1997–2014 she served as the founder and director of Vermont’s only dedicated Ashtanga studio, Bristol Yoga. Her love of surfing then brought her to Montauk, NY where she created a new practice space and yoga community. Specializing in the integration of the Ashtanga system of Asana with the principles of Ayurveda and the depth of Yogic philosophy, Christine offers students unique insights into discovering greater joy, freedom, and self-transformation. She has made many trips to Mysore, South India to study with the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and the Jois family and is honored to have received the blessing and authorization to teach the Ashtanga Yoga system.
When you take a class with Christine, you will find yourself engaged with a teacher that integrates alignment and intuition, strength and fluidity, mindfulness and humor. She is passionate about the teachings, and brings a gentle, compassionate, and light-hearted, yet powerful, hands-on approach.
Christine’s Saturday Series class is a great place to experience the energy and flow of the dynamic Ashtanga sequence. In this class, students will practice the primary series of the Ashtanga Yoga, with appropriate modifications offered as needed. Students will be verbally led through the traditional sequence, and will be cued regularly to engage the core aspects of the Ashtanga system: breath, drishti (gazing point), vinyasa, and posture. This class is accessible for both students new to Ashtanga (but have some background in a yoga practice) and those practitioners who want to build more strength, stamina and focus. Come ready to breathe, flow and sweat. Christine will conclude the class with 30 minutes of Q&A during which time you may ask questions about your own practice.
Please note that this Saturday Series will begin at 10am is 2 hours. Cost is $20.
PREVIOUS CLASSES
January 9: Georgia Reath -Blue Light Yoga
Georgia has been practicing asana for twenty years, teaching for fourteen. She practices asana because it connects her to herself, the here and now, and others; and it is a gateway to her spiritual practice. She teaches asana because she believes in its transformative and healing powers. After two decades of training in a multitude of disciplines, she has honed an authentic practice and method of teaching centered on thoughtful, informed alignment; smart, fun, creative sequencing; and an intentional balance between exertion and restoration. She teaches what she knows. She shares what inspires her. She is committed to paying attention, engaging, and often, gently pushing her students. Her intention is for her students to be inspired and to learn in every class.
Blue Light Yoga is a 75-minute vinyasa class. BLY was born out of the Ashtanga practice and grew into a unique vinyasa practice that is always fresh and relevant. BLY emphasizes creativity, flow, alignment, music and heart. BLY classes are challenging yet accessible; familiar yet surprising; soft yet powerful; and always a journey with a beginning, middle, and end. BLY is an intentional, loving and courageous practice that asks students to balance their strengths and vulnerabilities. There is no right or wrong in BLY; the practice cultivates the inner teacher.
January 16: Elke Pierre - Vinyasa Flow
Elke (Milhench) is an instructor and the director of the Marion Yoga Loft.
She opened The Yoga Loft in the fall of 2007. She is certified in Hatha, Vinyasa, and LifeForce Yoga. She was certified by Paul Jerard of the Aura Wellness Center in Attleboro, MA and by Amy Weintraub, author of 'Yoga for Depression'. Elke has also studied with Richard Freeman, Vyas Houston, Tom Gillette, Ann Greene, Priti Robyn Ross, Bryan Kest, Anna Forrest, and Sean Corn. She is committed to helping others help themselves through yoga and the traditions of yoga - with the focus on living with greater happiness, peace and truth. Elke is fully certified as a Reiki Master.
There is lots to love in Elks's classes: she loves giving assists and she offers a creative flow with a rockin' playlist. Though her new class, ALL LEVELS VINYASA, is slower and more potent. This small group of 12 students only keeps this class unique with its many hands-on assists and personal attention.
January 23: Nikki Vilella - Kula Flow Foundations
After moving to Tribeca eighteen years ago, I stumbled upon a premie Kula on the way to the train. I went, was hands down hooked by the first hip opener, and the rest is history. I started teaching at Kula in 2005 and opened Kula Williamsburg (alongside my partner in crime Schuyler Grant) in 2010 in order to spread the Kula love throughout my home borough of Brooklyn. Kula Soho is our attempt at an oasis between its two older sisters. I am at the helm of the 200 hour Kula Flow Foundations teacher training program, teach at our stateside 75 hour advanced TT and lead the same 75 hour format each summer in Portugal. I have written for Yoga Journal and was named one of America's top 100 influential teachers. As a teacher, I strive to include the perfect alchemy of precise physical instruction, intelligence, intention and space into my classes. My passion for anatomy and sequencing are clear in my teaching. As a teacher trainer, I want to unpack the mystery of putting together an inspired vinyasa sequence so that you can step away from the stress of "following a methodology", cultivate your authentic voice and enjoy your job! The respect that I have for all of my teachers who have walked this path before me runs deep.

February 6: David Vendetti - "fun and smart stretching with a little conditioning, done in a [zoom] room full of excellent people."
I am the current founder of the Yoga Liberation Front teacher training. In the past I co-owned and directed South Boston Yoga and began my research as a dancer, artist, and biologist. My studies brought fascinating enrichment in fitness, massage therapy, gymnastics, yoga, and retreats and travels worldwide. I wanted to make a difference, to help others see how incredible they are. I have always been a champion of the underdog and those who think in new ways.
I currently teach my own style of yoga which you could call “Playful and smart sequencing with a little conditioning, done in a room full of excellent people.” I also am a bodyworker, a Structural Integrator and my work centers around shifting people out of pain and into alignment. My hope is through both of these disciplines to help each individual find a way to walk freely, breath deeply and enjoy a strong, supple and well balanced body. Lastly I teach teachers. I teach them to teach others, to take care of themselves and what it is to be human and see another person as human.
