Right Here, Right Now

Hello,

How are you? I hope you had a nice ending to 2020--that you were able to share it with your people, either in person or remotely, and that you got a break from your everyday routines.

Tomorrow is Monday, and in our old life, Roo and I would say, "it's back to the grind." But not this year. Yes, we are both back to work tomorrow, but with nowhere to go. There are no commutes to Boston. No pending work travel. No late-night sports practices to rush to after school. We know this won't last forever, nor do we want it to, but today, we're embracing being healthy and having nowhere to go.

I truly love the month of January. It makes me think of my grandfather who loved winter most. We called him Grandpip, and he would always rise first, and record the weather in his tiny blue print each winter morning over a plate of sticky, toasted eggos and a cup of hot coffee. I could never get up early enough to beat him to the table. But I often think of him when I come to my journal these days before my own household rises.

The sky is so blue and crisp and clean in January. Winter is fresh and full of promise to restore and replenish us. The light is slowly returning. And for us New Englanders, there is the anticipation of soft, white snow, and getting outside with new purpose on our skis, skates, sleds, and snowshoes. Like snowfall, January quiets the mind and body.

I'm not a fan of setting goals or resolutions on January 1st. I learned a long time ago that those never work for me. The forgotten resolutions and unmet goals only set me up to feel badly about myself. Instead, I love to use January as a time to reflect. It's a time to integrate and re-align our intentions after experiencing another year of life.

This year, in particular, has forced all of us to grow. A LOT. We've had to adapt to new ways of being in EVERY FACET OF OUR LIVES; we've had to let go of old patterns and routines; we've had to create new ways to get our needs met and carry out our responsibilities. I find this growth extraordinarily hopeful in that we have shown each other that we are capable of great resilience, resourcefulness, patience, creativity, empathy, and science. We can find humor and love and silver linings anywhere.

As I reflect on how to realign myself to live and grow into 2021, I keep coming back to this: now is the (perfect) time to let go of expectations, and simply enjoy all that I am, and all that I have, right here, right now.

May we all find time to reflect, restore, and enjoy this winter,
Georgia

PS As always, thank you for reading.

Have you had a chance to check out the new site yet? Did you see the music page? Along with my favorite CAKE and Blue Light Yoga songs of 2020, Roo just added the 19th (!) volume of his coveted end-of-the-year playlist, Santa's Sleigh Tunes. Check it out.
