WTF!
Hello friends,
Another week of WTFs! (Thank God for our capacity to compartmentalize.) There's no question we are at a point in history where we are being asked as a nation, as a people, and as a world, to re-evaluate how we inhabit this Earth. Climate change, COVID-19, Trump's rise and fall, racism...these horrendous realities that are no longer possible to deny are colliding right here, right now for a reason. We are living unsustainably- you know it, I know it, they know it. Our actions, choices, behaviors and thoughts have gotten us to this point, and there's no reason they can not get us out.
COVID-19 has shown us that humans are very capable of dramatically changing the way they live on a universal scale. The pandemic has also shown us that humans are defenseless without science. Trump's Presidency has shown us that we desperately need to re-unite our nation and our world. We need to find common ground and solidarity. Americans in particular need to rebuild their sense of decency: we suck if we cannot embody and model respect, equality, and truth.
The beautiful and powerful rising tide of Black Lives Matter and the horrific and blatant acts of racism we are faced with on a daily basis has brought white privilege and systemic racism to the tip of our noses. My white friends: it's OUR problem. What are we willing to sacrifice, to change, to right this sinking ship? Are you willing to make reparations on a personal level? These are the questions we must ask ourselves and contemplate our answers. We must dig deep and find our willingness to sacrifice for the greater good. We must retell a truer version of history to our children- if not, how will they understand the horrible realities they're witnessing today?
The way I see it, all of this lands us at: LESS IS MORE. The world cannot hold all this crap. She is telling us loud and clear to get it together. She has sent us to our rooms for almost a year now, giving us an opportunity to slow down and think about what we've done and said in our lifetime and in the generations before us. How are we going to come back out? Will you buy less? Will you eat less meat? Will you vote differently? Will you vote? Will you read books by black authors? Will you hire more people of color? Will you have less commitments? Will you cut down on your work travel? Will you have more family dinners? Will you spend more time outside? Will you listen more? Will you pay attention more? Will you need less? Will you create more? Will you look for the truth? Will you get more information? Will you help others more? Will you stand up for what you believe in? Will you call out the bully in the room? Will you more readily put the collective over the individual? Choose one thing, folks, one thing that resonates-that feels true and aligned-and commit to it. If we each do one, true, aligned thing, and we do it well, we will make a difference in halting, and finding another, better way.
With Respect,
Georgia
