into the blue- red books, simmering and the azores

Hello Blue Light community,

Although it was unintentional on my part, it occurred to me this morning that the last time I wrote to you we had just set our clocks back an hour for daylight savings, and here we are, springing forward again. I’m partial to springing forward over falling back. It’s always around this time that I reach for my Red Book. For those of you who don’t know about my trusty Red Book, it’s my personal guide to how to live better. I write down what I learn as I go, things like “Christmas shop early," “Buy travel insurance,” “Leave a day between coming home from vacation and going back to work,” “Turn the lights down when you’re hosting a party,” or today, I wrote “Break up routine with peace-ing out to places where less clothes are necessary and adventures are a guarantee, and if that’s not possible, put plans in place for when it is.” I often forget my own advice but nonetheless I keep trying to help my future self.

Taking my Red Book wisdom to heart, I’ve put some serious time and thought into planning some future adventures for all of us. Yup, that’s right, I’m back at it! After a suburb-induced hiatus, I’m jumping back on the retreat train, and my first stop will be to the Azores in October, right before we fall back again. This first one is an intimate not-to-be-missed affair on a volcanic island off of Portugal. Don’t wait to sign up (there’s only 12 spots). Be bold and book it. You won’t regret it. Scroll down for more information.

Other news is that I have a new website where you can find my weekly schedule and information about future events and retreats. I’m still on the hunt for a more permanent space to house Blue Light. I have a few things simmering. Speaking of, simmering is also in the red book: “let things simmer in life and in the kitchen.” I love to cook, but no one instilled in me the importance of low consistent heat to let the flavors meld and settle. I’m more of a turn-it-up and let-it-fry kind-a-girl. My poor children are constantly bracing themselves for when the smoke alarm will go off again. But lately, I’ve been trying to slow down. As the great Pooh bear advises: “No rush. No hurry." In the kitchen, these days, I give myself a little more time and I do a little more chopping and anticipating before turning on the heat. It turns out, this allows for some nice simmering time to catch up with Roo after work and before dinner. Beyond the kitchen, I’m trying to wait before I speak. I’m trying to practice patience when things are unclear or uncomfortable. And just in case you’re wondering where I find the best place is to let things simmer (besides in the kitchen or outside): on my mat!

I hope this finds you well and to see you soon, maybe in the Azores! Remember: Be bold and book it,

Georgia
