Into the blue - icing on the cake

Good morning.

We have a big week ahead of us. We're all feeling it, wondering where we'll be on Wednesday.

The snow that fell, and stayed, here in New England on Friday really is the icing on the 2020 cake. I was not happy when we lost power mid-shower Friday morning (we lose water when we lose power) nor was I enjoying myself cleaning off my car. It didn't help that I refused to put on my winter boots so the snow was landing on my sock-less ankles. And Halloween- really?- it was freezing out there last night, even under all our layers of masks.

But while I spent the day inside getting mad about the snow landing on the vibrant leaves and fretting about the weight of the snow on our already tender lilac trees and heavy hearts, our children pulled out their entire winter wardrobe, and spent every chance they could gearing up and marching outside to sled, throw snowballs, and imprint snow angels all over our backyard.

By five o'clock on Friday (after Roo cleaned the snow off our drooping lilac trees), I bundled up, and took a walk. I was so inspired by the landscape, I grabbed my phone, and took the same walk again, hoping to capture some of the unusual beauty created in the abrupt and premature meeting of fall and winter. I was feeling better until we woke up in the middle of the night with no heat!

We're on a roller coaster, folks, that's for sure. We've been on it for close to 8 months (that's intense!) and there's still no end in sight nor idea of what's ahead. If your resilience is feeling a bit frayed (or shot completely), remember, that's only natural, and you're not alone-we're all on this crazy, scary ride, feeling all the feels together.

As we head into colder, shorter days, it is important to stay vigilant in your self care- more than ever your well being is essential to our well being. Get proactive now. I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Alfred Wainwright:

There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.

Stay warm and well,
Georgia
