into the list- bucket list trifecta: jungle, surf & yoga
When I was 25 and in graduate school, riding the 1 train to Columbia, I wrote my bucket list in green ink in a black lined moleskin notebook, now tattered and full. Here’s what I wrote:
Children
Handstand
Drive standard
Publish Novel
Grandchildren
Surf
Vegetable Garden
Live abroad
15 years later, here’s where I’m at:
Check.
Check.
Check.
I have an outline…
Now up to Pip and Phoebe…
Did you read my last newsletter?
Check.
I’m thinking France would be fun. Roo?
As I get older, clichés seem to ring truer. (Did I mention I'm thinking of getting a tattoo at 40?) Tattoos and bucket lists seem so much more interesting (and meaningful?) now. And since I imagine writing a book and living abroad won’t be any harder at 50 or 60, I feel the time to learn how to surf is now or never. So last week, I called up Boca Sombrero in Costa Rica and Erin Carney in San Francisco and now this is happening!]
If you're not in yet, read on:
If you haven't practiced with Erin, you're in for a treat. She is a very special teacher, practitioner and person who does the work! And I'm thrilled to be leading a retreat with her. It's been a long time in the making.
Both Erin and I have been to the Osa (Erin once visited and never left) and we can both attest to its pristine and rugged beauty and are happy to answer questions you might have about the Osa or getting there.
This retreat is for many types: yogis, surfers, rainforest explores, lovers, solo travelers, friends, families- you name it!
Where we are staying is ideal for beginner and intermediate surfers- the surf school is run by a lovely couple named Michelle and Eddie; there are no rocks and a channel to paddle out in where the waves do not break. If you don't want to surf, there are plenty of other exciting or more relaxing ways to spend your days.
The two daily yoga classes will be held under a thatched roof pavilion where you will be lulled by the crashing surf and jungle breeze.
The food is delicious! My personal favorite is taco night. Nothing but fresh bright local foods all week.
There is an acupuncturist, Thai masseuse and Swedish masseuse who come to the property or you can head to the spa down the road for a facial or body scrub with products made from local ingredients.
The rain forest will blow you away. You'll see monkeys, macaws, sloths and swim in waterfalls.
Friday night, we'll go dancing at the only local bar!
It will be an adventure of a lifetime.
There will be no list making from your hammock!
